02Background

Background

Javier Faroni was born on February 4, 1971, in General Roca, in the province of Córdoba. He lived there until the age of nine, when he moved with his parents and sister to Mar del Plata, a city where he immediately set down his heart and made his home; so much so that most people believe he is a native of "La Ciudad Feliz" (the Happy City). At the age of eleven, while walking along the seafront promenade hand in hand with his grandmother, he met actor Carlos Calvo and asked him to invite him to watch the show "from behind the stage." It was there that he discovered his passion for theater.

From that moment on, he devoted himself body and soul to this work. He has more than 35 years in the profession and over 500 productions to his name, including notable titles such as Vale Todo (Anything Goes), Casi Normales, La dama de negro, La casa de Bernarda Alba, Escandalosas, Humores que matan, Sé infiel y no mires con quién, Brillantísima, En el Aire, En la cama, La vuelta al Hogar, Fátima Flórez es única, 8 Mujeres, La jaula de las locas, Cuando Harry conoció a Sally, Los 39 escalones, Extraños en un tren, Boeing Boeing, Taxi, Flores de Acero, Las chicas del calendario, Pour la Gallery, Algo en común, El regreso del tigre, Rumores, Un día muy particular, Poder ser puede, Money Money, El show de las divorciadas, El hombre inesperado, Extraña pareja, Milagros del Corazón, El secreto de la vida, Divain, El loco de Asís, Vedettísima, El ángel y demonio del espectáculo, Un amor de tango, Bravísima, Las Mosqueteras del Rey, 3 Versiones de la vida, Sor Presas, Doña Flor y sus dos maridos, El otro lado de la cama, Casa Valentina, Rotos de amor, Desnudos, El Beso, Maldita Felicidad, Una clase especial, La Ratonera, La función que sale mal, El secreto, El divorcio, La mentira, and Querido Evan, among many others that make up his extensive and varied repertoire. He stages an average of ten shows per season across Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, and Villa Carlos Paz, and he also brings theater to dozens of cities and towns throughout Argentina through national tours of the productions he stages.

His productions have also been performed in other parts of the world. Many of the works mentioned have been staged in neighboring Uruguay and Paraguay, and particularly noteworthy is the remarkable success of "Made in Argentina" in Spain. Equally significant is the cultural contribution he has made, and continues to make, in the city of Miami, not only by producing his own shows but also by helping directors and actors develop new projects. For this reason, and in recognition of this contribution, he received the Miami Global distinction from Mayor Tomás Regalado.

Throughout his career, he has also received numerous awards for his work, including the Estrella de Mar, José María Vilches, Carlos, ACE, Hugo, María Guerrero, and Trinidad Guevara awards. Among these, particularly notable are a special distinction at the 2009 Estrella de Mar Awards for the number of shows he brings to Mar del Plata year after year, and the recognition granted in January 2011 by the Honorable City Council and the Municipal Tourism Board of Mar del Plata for his 20-year career in theater production and his ongoing support for Mar del Plata's theater scene and the city's cultural life as a whole. In 2012, he received the ACE Award for Best Producer of the Year.
